Why I built ChargeCostCalculator
Reviewed by Edward, publisher and site editor ·
I’m Edward, an IT systems engineer and EV owner in Malta. I switched to electric in 2021 and started paying much closer attention to the practical numbers behind charging.
The problem I kept running into
I kept seeing charging-cost figures that looked definite without showing the assumptions behind them. Usable battery capacity, charging losses and the electricity tariff can all change the answer.
My own reference point
Charging a 39 kWh battery at home in Malta costs me around €4 and gives me approximately 374 km of real-world driving. That is useful context, but another driver can get a very different result.
What I wanted to do differently
I wanted the calculation to stay visible. The site shows the inputs, publishes the formulas and lets you replace reference figures with your own tariff and vehicle data.
